Day 1, you have in front of you totally strangers who are going to put their trust and hopes in you. Those students that, day by day, are becoming in closer people who you share laughs, frustrations, hopes, fears, whishes and doubts.
After five years teaching, I have seen how different students come to my class, each one with a diverse story. Most of them come from different backgrounds, some students need English for their degree, others for their job and some others learn English as a hobbie… but all of them have something in common: they have chosen you to be their teacher. For that reason, it is extremely important that they consider the most appropriate method to learn English and as for me, without any doubt, the best way to learn a language is with a professional teacher in a school with high standards to service their students, where there is student care, good administration and management and recognized accreditation.
Consequently, taking into account that those students have chosen us, that responsibility lies on me. We are educators, acting as a channel of knowledge and the students trust in us for helping them in their lives, both educationally and emotionally, since we are not only teachers, but also people who have gone through the same difficulties they have encountered in life.
The day of the exam finally arrives and those people who were once irrelevant in my life, get to transmit their nerves to me, I put myself on their shoes, I am with them until the last minute and I cheer them up. That´s the exact moment when I realise all my work has been worth the effort, when I see their faces after the exam and they thank me for having taught them everything I know and for having taken part in a big change in their lives.
Without any hesitation, I have chosen a very rewarding job, since there is no better satisfaction after a long course, than helping others to progress in their lives and improve their future.
